I have been working on “The Hunt” for almost a year (since it came out on Expedition Unknown in the U.S.) and have a question for those of you who have studied the last clue: Hypothetically if you were standing right in front of the Sentinels would you know where to dig, exactly? I have often thought that it would be right where the light is shining, but don’t really know?
May 24, 2020 at 5:39 pm #910If you found the sentinel you need to draw another line from there…
May 27, 2020 at 2:18 pm #913A couple of days ago it came to, I know where to draw the line and I think may have figured out where exactly to dig, as I said when I found it I was checking a clue and was dumbfounded when I saw them. In the limited time I had I could not figure out where to dig but putting it (the last two clues) together I am pretty sure I know exactly where to dig. However, if I should be wrong my offer still stands! I am waiting for a friend to be able to submit paperwork for her passport as soon as she has it we will head back, most likely sometime in early July (fingers crossed)!
Note: if anyone is wondering why I did not use a metal detector, I did, however it was unhelpful in this area.

November 8, 2020 at 8:07 pm #951Diane, I started the same time as you. Within 3 weeks I was so convinced I had a solution that I went to France with friends and stood in front of my sentinelles, convinced the final clue would become apparent I became extremely excited when I found the grave error and the valley opened to reveal the black ships mast, we even dug a hole in the middle of the night in search of the prize! Needless to say I didn’t dig anything up on that trip and although I have found many owls from the comfort of my armchair since, I can’t wait for the COVID pandemic to ease restrictions so that we can travel again. There is no doubt in my mind where I should be stood at the end of the 650, but I am torn on the possibilities for the 520. If anyone is on similar lines to me they will understand when I say my journey to the centre of the earth starts with the 900 clue.
May 26, 2021 at 4:29 pm #1036the 900 clue?????
May 26, 2021 at 5:23 pm #1037The ground was to highly mineralized, the metal detector went off non-stop. Sorry I don’t know what the 900 clue is:(
May 26, 2021 at 5:42 pm #1038Let me pose a question to you all:
If you found the owl tomorrow after the exchange for the real owl what would you do?May 28, 2021 at 3:51 pm #1042Personally I would design a new hunt using Max’s clues, but with a little more clarification and at the end of which the finder would win a new Owl (a miniature of the Original) probably worth somewhere in the area of $10,000!
May 28, 2021 at 4:19 pm #1043Good luck Diane, and what a lovely idea to design a new hunt if you find the owl! I plan to do the same if I get lucky and find it.
I’m interested to know what everyone thinks of the ‘super solution’? Obviously, no one will give away their answer, but I find it interesting that Max said there were secret directions from the general area giving an exact place to dig… (perhaps a secret sentence like ‘3 metres from the path’ But, at the same time, no one is supposed to be able to find this without solving the rest of the clues. I found myself very stuck on all this, although now I have an idea for it. I’ll have to wait to see if it’s right. 🙂
May 28, 2021 at 4:49 pm #1044Thank you, I just want to be able to “Pay it Forward”! and yes there are secret directions and when I found them I still didn’t understand what to do, it dawned on my two months later when I was back in the states!
June 7, 2021 at 6:01 pm #1062I went digging last year, on my way back in the bus, it dawned on me too… I assumed something, which I shouldn’t have done. As the clue was very specific, and yet, I went with my assumption. I could’ve been just 5 meters off. Sadly, during the bus trip back home I also learned of the first 3 corona victims in Paris… I haven’t been able to return since due to the pandemic…
Now I’m waiting for the world to get safe again, for restrictions to be lifted and for the EU corona passport to be released…
And for all of you hunters out there, stay safe!
June 7, 2021 at 6:29 pm #1063It sounds like we both did something silly that after reading the clues again realized how silly we were! Best of luck to you when you get back there!
June 11, 2021 at 3:45 pm #1066Nah, it was more like I needed the straight orthogonal, but was distracted by the 2424-42-424-44-224-24-42-24 line, because while I was there measuring the orthogonal it was way too close to 242 degrees… not to mention my compass app was buggy, as it turned out, the closing clip of my (then new) phone case has a small magnet in there, so it acted up really bad that day… Next time I’m gonna ditch the phone case.
Btw, the “tangent” in the Secret Notebooks does work, instead of the orthogonal. Although, the path is made of dirt, and by now the edge of the path has widened by 30cm, due to rain erosion. Which is probably why Max changed it later on. However, there’s definitely a small hill/slope in the path when you go 242 degrees into that direction, but the tangent will not be at exactly 242 degrees.
I was working with the orthogonal at the location, yet, I assumed I needed to go 242 degrees (which works for the tangent because you still have to find the middle of the slope, but it doesn’t work for the orthogonal, as the orthogonal will give you an exact direction from the “you must review them” location, but it’s not exactly 242 degrees)
Oh, I wanna have my vaccination passport so badly… So close… I hope…
